Freeze-dried Meals

Freeze-drying is a cold dehydration process: foods are first frozen and then vacuum-sealed to remove almost 100% of the water through sublimation. Unlike traditional dehydration (which uses heat), freeze-drying preserves up to ~97% of the food's original nutrients , much more than the typical ~50-60% of conventionally dehydrated foods. Furthermore, the flavor, aroma, and texture are practically maintained, since the process does not involve high temperatures. Freeze-dried meals, after rehydration, come very close to the nutritional value and taste of fresh food.

  • Add hot water.

    1. Open the packaging and remove the oxygen bag (if present).
    2. Add the indicated amount of hot water .
    3. Mix well, close the zip and wait 8 to 10 minutes .
    4. Eat straight from the bag. No dishes, no fuss.
  • Preparing with Direct Fire

    1. Open the packaging and remove the oxygen bag (if present).
    2. Add cold water directly to the bag.
    3. Partially close the zip and place the bottom of the bag over a low flame.
    4. Stir occasionally until heated through and rehydrated (10–15 min).
    5. Carefully remove from the heat and it's ready to eat.

What is it and what are its advantages?

Long Shelf Life

Because 98-99% of the moisture has been removed, freeze-dried foods last for many years without spoiling. Tactical Foodpack meals, for example, have a shelf life of up to 8 years from the date of manufacture – without the need for refrigeration. This is perfect for storing emergency kits and for extended expeditions.

No Preservatives and 100% Natural

Freeze-drying preserves food without the need for chemical additives. Tactical Foodpack meals contain no preservatives or "strange" additives ; they are made with real ingredients and cooked at home before freeze-drying. In other words, you're consuming real food , with its original flavor and nutrients preserved.

Lightweight and easy to transport.

Removing the water makes the food extremely light and compact – ideal for carrying in a backpack. A typical freeze-dried meal weighs around 100-120g (dry packaging), but yields a serving of ~500 kcal after rehydration, equivalent to ~400-500g of prepared food. Canned or rehydrated foods are much heavier for the same energy value. In an emergency situation, this reduction in weight and volume makes all the difference.

Simple and Quick Preparation

Virtually ready to eat – just add water. Because the dishes have already been cooked before freeze-drying, no long cooking time is required. Freeze-dried meals are prepared in minutes by adding hot water and waiting. In contrast, dehydrated foods often need to be boiled for 15-20 minutes to rehydrate, consuming more time and fuel. With Tactical Foodpack meals, you simply add water, wait about 8-10 minutes , and the food is ready to enjoy – tasting almost the same as freshly made food.

Safety and Quality

The freeze-drying process inhibits microorganisms by almost completely removing water, ensuring safe food. Furthermore, since the ingredients are natural and pre-cooked, you know exactly what you're consuming – no chemical surprises . Each meal is packaged in a sealed, durable container, maintaining its integrity until consumption.

Superior Taste and Texture

Because they retain their intact cellular structure, freeze-dried foods regain their original texture when rehydrated. The dishes retain their homemade flavor, appetizing aroma, and pleasing appearance. Many users report that the taste of freeze-dried meals is better than that of traditional dehydrated meals, which can become rubbery or tasteless due to the use of heat in processing. In short, gourmet quality even after years of storage.
